INFO
This is the first published children's book featuring my artwork. The author, my friend Joshua Taylor, connected me with the publisher. We went through a small series of sketches and samples to get the style right, and then it was successfully Kickstarted, reaching its goal in just a few days. I drew everything traditionally, but chose to ink and color the cover in Adobe Photoshop. I also designed the logo for the title. The rest of the book was drawn in india ink, uncolored and hatched to give it a classic aesthetic.
The story is about Monstrous Mo (based on the Moth Man of West Virginia) stealing the yellow apple lunch bag from Kana, a lady bear who loves to draw, and her best friend, Charlie, a witty cardinal with a physical disability. The bear and bird journey to find Mo, and run into a giant turtle named Conrad who helps them on the way. Its a story about confronting a bully, realizing misunderstandings and forming new friendships.
The Henlo Press was happy enough with my work to hire me for a different author. I am now working on Heidi the Hippo and will hopefully be on board for Kana & Charlie 2.
