I was trained in various aspects of traditional visual design over 20 years ago at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School. After graduating in 2004, I worked for the non-profit organization, Brick by Brick (now Dream Out Loud: Center for The Arts) and freelanced (clients included Spinner Publications and Tim “Ripper” Owens of Judas Priest fame.)
I paused my creative pursuits in 2009 to serve a few years in the United States Air Force as a CV-22 crew chief. Shortly after honorable discharge, I worked within various aspects of news media at The Chatsworth Times, from ad design, publishing cartoon strips, circulation to the business and administrative side.
I wanted to reconnect with my former creative self, and push my abilities beyond my own understanding. I had to retrain and become renewed. I decided to use my GI Bill on art school before it was too late.
Now I am back… stronger than ever. I recently acquired my Associate of Arts degree in Art Pathway and will be continuing as a junior, further pursuing the Bachelor of Fine Art degree in Visual Art at University of North Georgia.
INFO
Below features some of my newest, strongest works, which is mostly rendered in Adobe Photoshop, along with some traditional illustration.
Beyond those pieces, my work extends into desktop publishing, book illustration, logo and cover design. I am also familiar with Adobe InDesign, After Effects, and Illustrator.
I've explored Corel products and Procreate, photography, typography, storyboarding, animation and other forms of traditional art such as three-dimensional sculpture.
There is a lot of range in my work, along with over 20 years of experience. I've tried to include some of my earliest pieces to show growth.
My animation and storyboarding classwork is in a separate portfolio which can be found with the navigation drawer / menu button on the top right corner of this page.
STATEMENT ON A.I.: No generative artificial intelligence was used in the making of any of my artwork. Do not steal my art or feed it into A.I. to animate it or "fix it" without my permission. I understand people have access to new tools to create things for their own amusement or exploration of new ideas, but my work was created with care and craftsmanship. The work seen in this portfolio supports my livelihood, was created to display my skillset and also shows professional, published work that is legally owned by respective clients – some work may even contain likenesses of individuals or loved ones that may not appreciate unsolicited editing without permission.
If a client brings forth a sample or reference that used generative A.I., I still have to use professional tools such as Adobe Illustrator to refine the work and prepare it for reproduction or legal usage. A.I. struggles with anatomy, doesn't understand Pantone colors, or have editable layers. Even images seemingly in proper point perspective created by generative A.I. often have to be double checked or redrawn. Brush stroke consistency or marketable style, color theory, and even dramatic compositional arrangements making use of proper lighting and depth are better handled personally.
I started in the 2000's with a t-square and triangle on a drawing desk. I was initially trained when I was young without access to any digital tools. I currently still enjoy drawing and painting traditionally. My personal work will never require the use of A.I.
