THE SKULL

Life Drawing with Pencils

INFO

I drew this on my first day of Life Drawing class in the Summer of 2023 at University of North Georgia. I was sharpened by my previous Drawing 1 class and determined to put my best foot forward. At a standing easel, I used various pencils and drew this model skull purely from observation. I have drawn many skulls in a cartoony nature and otherwise, but nothing like this, and only in a few hours. This isn’t a macabre drawing, in order to draw life or portraits, you have to understand the skeletal structure and how that relates to the outward appearance of the body. This is one of my favorite drawings, and a testament to my understanding of using traditional gray pencils, tonal range and texture.
